Hobo Nickels

Modern versions of a unique American folk art. Hobo nickels were originally made by Depression era hobos who would carve and transform the indian's face on the buffalo nickel into a bearded hobo wearing a derby. These unique coins were exchanged for food or lodging. Today's hobo nickels are made on the engraver's bench under stereo microscope and are carved in high detail and with great precision. These whimisical coins are highly valued by collectors aand are centerpieces in prestigious collections.
